A public meeting was held in Temploni on Wednesday evening to present the consequences of heavy metals on public health following the analysis results from the samples taken from the residues in the Temploni landfill area.
Temploni Cultural Society issued the following statement:
"Following the submission of our proposals to the Municipal Council last Sunday regarding the the analysis results showing the existence of heavy metals in streams adjacent to the landfill, we held a public meeting in Temploni Square on Wednesday 17 June.
The purpose of the meeting was provide information on the impact of heavy metals on public health and to support the demands presented to the recent Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipal Council meeting - which we were told on Wednesday were passed unanimously.
We would like to thank all those who attended what we consider to be a very important meeting, giving their support to our efforts to discover exactly what the situation is.
We remain on constant alert and are watching what actions will be taken (implementing our demands) whilst continuing to take action ourselves.
We would request that anyone who has analyses for heavy metals in water carried out forward copies of the results to us at [email protected] or by phone - 6934 504049 (Magda Papanikolopoulou).
