CORFU. The video of the ΄Mantzaros΄ Philharmonic Society tribute to Manos Hadjidakis is available online from today, 15 June.
From today, Monday 15 June, the tribute to Manos Hadjidakis, 26 years after his death, performed by 'Mantzaros' Philharmonic Society is available online.
Accompanying message from the Philharmonic Society:
"This year is the 26th anniversary of the death of a great and unique Greek composer - Manos Hadjidakis.
He put melodies to dreams and represented those who were able to express the sensitivities of the time and not just satisfy and flatter the usual practices of the time and the masses.
Hadjidakis was able to make the song something sacred and to have a social function. For him the song was transformed into a magical moment with a perfect coupling of words and music - something which he accomplished with all his works in his own unique way.
Through Hadjidakis we discovered our own common language and the language of sounds and images.
On the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the death of this great man and composer, the Philharmonic Society has produced an online video "26 Years Later..."
It is the video of a special tribute event for Manos where his songs have been arranged for the Society's brass and woodwind ensemble, conducted by Socrates Anthis and deputy conductor Spyros Rouvas. The actor Spyros Vergis narrates."
