95.7% of Greece΄s bathing waters of excellent quality

ATHENS. According to the European Environment Agency΄s annual assessment of bathing waters in 27 countries, Greece is in 4th position as regards cleanliness and quality of bathing waters.
According to the European Environment Agency survey just published, Greece is in 4th position (behind Cyprus, Austria and Malta) as regards the quality of its bathing waters.
According to the report, of the 22,295 bathing water sites monitored 84.6% had 'excellent' bathing water quality. The survey covered sites in 27 European countries.
The analyses conducted in each country showed that there were five countries which had 'excellent' quality in at least 95 % of their bathing waters - Cyprus, Austria, Malta, Greece and Croatia.
The European Environment Agency said that, in general, the quality of coastal swimming sites is better than those located inland - 87.4% of coastal sites were assessed as excellent compared to 79.5% inland EU sites.
