Committment from Minister of Tourism to provide support to Regions for tourism

CORFU. At the 5th meeting of the Regional Tourism Committee the Minister of Tourism Haris Theoharis spoke of the immediate release of resources to boost the tourist industry.
The 5th meeting of the Regional Tourism Committee took place on Thursday 14 May by teleconference with the Minister of Tourism Haris Theoharis and Regional Governors and Deputy Governors taking part.
The restart of the economy and protection for tourist activities are at the centre of all initiatives and plans.
The concerns of each Region with regard to the latest developments were exxpressed and discussed.
According to the update from the Ionian Islands Region, the responsible Deputy Governor Alexandros Alexakis stressed the seasonal nature of tourism in the Ionian Islands, with the economy almost completely dependent on the tourist industry. He pointed out the need for businesses and employees in the sector to be protected as they will boost the local economy.
The Minister announced and gave a committment to the immediate release of resources to support tourist activities so that the country can gain a significant share of the international market and compensate as far as possible for the losses and contraction of the tourist season.
