CORFU. North Corfu Municipal finance committee approves tender for repairs to Agios Giorgios Pagon - Aspiotadis road.
A contractor will also begin work immediately to complete the old Velonades primary school building.
1. The invitation for tenders for repairs to the Agios Giorgios Pagon public road with a budget of 80,000 Euros was approved by the North Corfu Municipal finance committee on 13 May.
2. The tendering procedure for the project to complete work on the Velonades primary school building was completed and procedures are going forward for the successful bidder to start work.
"The local authority is listening to the demands and concerns of the local community and businesses," said the Mayor and Chairman of the finance committee Giorgos Mahimaris. "After so many years the North Corfu Municipality's commitment to repair the Aspiotades-Agios Giorgios Pagon road will be fulfilled.
"North Corfu Municipal vehicles and equipment are already being taken to the spots where work needs to be done so as to make the road safe for locals and visitors. The work that has already begun will continue with the existing contractor and the area's long-standing problems (biological treatment, road network) will gradually be solved.
"With the work that will be carried out in the first phase on the roads and on improving Agios Giorgios beach (cleaning, lighting etc.) Agios Giorgios Pagon will no longer be 'cut off' and can develop in such a way as to provide social, economic, tourist and cultural benefits for the area."
