CORFU. 800 face masks and 1,800 gloves - another 5,000 masks to come.

Following efforts via friends of Corfu in Germany, the North Corfu Municipality was able to obtain 800 face masks and 1,800 gloves, which it donated to Corfu General Hospital to help in its work dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.

North Corfu Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris and Deputy Mayor Spyridoula Kokkali handed over the personal protection equipment (PPE) to the Hospital Director Leonidas Roubatis and Director Ioannis Triantafiloudis on Tuesday 14 April.

This is the second donation of PPE to the hospital along with another 5,000 masks which have been sent to Athens Airport (free of charge) and are expected to arrive at Corfu Hospital shortly.

"The gift is the least we can do to express our gratitude to the health workers who find themselves in the front line of the battle against COVID-19 - medical, nursing, paramedical, administrative and auxiliary personnel, pharmacists, rescuers, ambulance staff and researchers in the scientific community," said the North Corfu Mayor. He expressed the deep gratitude of all the Municipality's citizens and the appreciation and support for their great work.

The Hospital Director thanked the Municipality for its gift.
