CORFU. With Corfu high on the list of lockdown violations police are increasing checks.
On Saturday night there was a police patrol car with lights flashing almost every 200m between San Rocco and Anemomylos.
On Monday there were also Fire Service vehicles keeping an eye out in Garitsa, Anemomylos and the park. A small Fire Service truck was checking permission forms around the Kanoni peninsula.
Police were also carrying out checks on central roads - see photos here.
Nevertheless, there are more than usual people on the streets in town and queues outside the banks and post office.
Police spoke on camera to Enimerosi: "When we are carrying out checks every day we also try to educate people about the measures and their purpose - preventing the spread of coronavirus." They also thank the majority of people who respect and adhere to the experts' guidelines and stay at home.
"We are all making this effort together so that we can return to normality as soon as possible," they say.
There have been strict police checks in Corfu since the first day of the lockdown but the daily number of violations still remains high.
