RHODES. A 7½-month-old baby was tested positive for coronavirus in Rhodes on Thursday evening - the first case on the island.

The parents - foreign nationals living in Archangelos, Rhodes - took the baby to the hospital with symptoms of the virus and the Paediatric Clinic took samples which tested positive.

The family had been told to keep the baby in isolation until the test results came out. The baby had mild symptoms but because it had a fever the proper procedures had to be followed and a test for coronavirus carried out.

The hospital director Mr. Roumanis was immediately informed and measures were immediately implemented to prevent the spread of the virus.

Immediate measures in Archangelos

Archangelos community president Nikolaos Dimelis confirmed the information to Rodiaki and said that all the necessary measures will be implemented. He asked that everyone remain calm and restrict their movements only to those that were necessary. He said that all the guidelines and instructions from the authorities will be followed.

The family of foreign nationals has lived and worked in the village for the last three years. The Health authorities have already begun an investigation into the case and the family and all those who have had direct contact with them are being kept in strict isolation.
