"It gives us great pleasure that Zero Waste policy will be the main topic of discussion at the next meeting of the Central Corfu Municipal Council.

Zero Waste policy was the central topic at the meeting we organised last October, where distinguished speakers presented both the principle and the practical implementation of Zero Waste.

We consider it to be imperative that the necessary procedures begin to implement a modern way of dealing with the problem of waste management using new methods which are environmentally friendly, economical for the public and in line with European legislation instead of those that have been implemented and planned up to now.

Waste Watch Corfu would like to state that it is neither our intention nor our responsibility to tell the Municipalities which funding programmes to choose. This obviously also applies to the recent proposal from Municipal Waste Europe to the Corfu Municipalities.

Waste Watch Corfu will continue its activities, based on the members' desire to contribute and offer help and support. Our aim is to research and promote improved methods of waste management with the least possible ecological impact, to raise awareness regarding a reduction in the volume of waste through prevention, reuse, recycling, sorting at source, proper composting and the protection of the environment in Corfu."
