CORFU. The serious issues of Erimitis and the Zero Waste proposal were not discussed at yesterday΄s Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipal Council meeting.

The procedure with questions, announcementsand voting took approximately four hours. Meanwhile, members of the public had come early and gathered in the Council meeting hall at Mon Repos for the discussion on the Zero Waste proposal. At around midnight Giorgos Kaloudis brought up the subject of Erimitis. As expected, this got things stirred up with the Mayor saying that a decision had to first come from the North Corfu Municipal Council, whose responsibility it was. "It would be a deviation from proper procedure and an impropriety. We're not going to go over the heads of the Municipality to  which Erimitis belongs."

Yiannis Trepeklis, however, claimed that the Central Corfu Municipal Council should definitely take a position on Adonis Giorgiades legislative amendment, which removes responsibility from and weakens the local authority. Messrs Kaloudis, Karidis, Boukas and Borbotis insisted that the matter should be discussed and Spyros Neratzis said that the Zero Waste proposal should also be discussed as the members of the public present had been waiting patiently for hours for this.

It had gone midnight and it was considered that the two topics would not be done justice if they were discussed under pressure. After a lot of disagreement and anger it was decided to carry the two topics over to the next Council meeting on Monday 24 February at 18:00.
