CORFU. Corfu Gastronomy Community was part of the Gastronomy Communities stand at the 7th Expotrof - an exhibition promoting the gastronomy of all Greek regions.
Corfu's presence was impressive - both in its presentation and its printed material which shows the island's cuisine and products and the three awards they have won.
The work of Corfu Gastronomy Community which began in 2019, but has its roots in the previous decade with 'Corfu Produces', is now starting to bear fruit. Producers, restaurateurs and representatives from the hospitality industry make up Corfu's gastronomic identity and enrich the island's tourist product.
Corfu Gastronomy Community's stand was full of members' products, showcasing the wealth of the island's agri-food sector. Amongst those represented were Corfu Beer, which had its own stand opposite that of the Gastronomy Community, with its varieties of beer; Lazaris Distillery & Artisan Sweets; olive oil from Agios Mathaios and the Olive Fabrica belonging to the Dafni family which created 'The Governor'. the first and only single-variety olive oil in the world Corfu Lianolia, which is the first in the world to have certified health benefits.
Two of the Corfu Gastronomy Community products won awards in the blind tasting contest. In the Alcohol / Wine / Soft Drinks / Beverages category the liqueur limoncello - a sweet alcoholic drink with a lemon base - produced by Lazaris Distillery & Artisan Sweets won the 1st Taste Award and the Gold Award for the Best Packaging. The koum quat spoon sweet produced by the same company was awarded two stars.
The company's products were prominent at the Corfu stand and owner Konstantinos Lazaris, even tough he had his own individual stand, was a constant presence at the Corfu Gastronomy Community stand.
The traditional charcuterie products from Christos Lavranos' Comeco - Corfu Meat Company drew a lot of attention from visitors. Mr. Lavranos is a founding member of Corfu Gastronomy Community and was present at the stand for all three days of the exhibition.
Corfu chefs Spyros Voulismas, Kostas Zervas and Leonidas Halkias cooked Corfu specialities (Bourdeto, Neratzosalata, Pastitsado) which were photographed and also given out to dozens of visitors to enjoy!
Corfu Chamber of Commerce Vice-President Nikos Hirdaris also visited the stand and took pride in his island's impressive presentation and display.
