CORFU. Coup against local authority. When the documentation for the investment is complete the matter can come back to the Municipal Council.
North Corfu Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris told Enimerosi late on Tuesday evening that there are two issues - the political opposition to these types of investment in the area and the administrative procedures regarding technical specifications.
The Local Authority's position as regards the first is well-known and non-negotiable and represents the majority view of local residents.
Mr. Mahimaris added that the majority party wanted to to postpone the discussion on the elevation & construction study at what proved to be a turbulent Council meeting due to the fact that there wer serious omissions from the study.
He was taken by surprise when he heard of the confidential communication behind his back between the Police Chief and the Municipal Council President and the request from DEI (Electricity Company) to install a generator along with the presence of the police and Fire Service following information that 'disturbances' were expected!
Giorgos Mahimaris also told Enimerosi that he objected to Development Minister Adonis Giorgiades' comments, and that overriding the Local Authority's responsibility - which is what the Minister implied - is improper and unconstitutional.
