Update from North Corfu Mayor on work in progress

CORFU. North Corfu Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris has provided a summary of works, meetings and events in the area.

In his press release regarding the previous week he mentions the following:

- North Corfu Municipal crews are carrying out road surfacing, filling in potholes, cleaning up ditches etc, with the priority being roads used by school buses and farmers.

- Crews from the Water Company made immediate repairs to the main pipeline in Acharavi and the tank in Horepiskopous.

- Work is continuing on repairs to the street lighting network.

- Collection of recyclable materials from schools and sports facilities is continuing and collaboration with businesses for the collection of recyclable materials has begun.

- Pupils from Thinalio Junior High met with the North Corfu Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris as part of a tourism project, accompanied by their teacher. The question and answer session revealed the high level of pupils' thinking and concern regarding the improvement of the tourist product in North Corfu.

- Everyone was present at the cutting of the North Corfu Municipality New Year's Cake in Acharavi on Friday 23 January, where best wishes to the workers and community presidents were expressed by Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris; local party leaders Spyros Aspiotis, Spyros Varelis, Kostas Roussinos and Socrates Trifonas; former Corfu MP Kostas Pavlidis and President of the Workers' Union Stamatis Korfiatis.

- A delegation from the Ionian Islands Regional party LASY, led by Ms. Alexandra Balou, came to North Corfu and met with the Mayor and the workers. There was an exchange of views and questions were asked regarding both the workers and general problems in the Municipality.

- 3 new employees started work at the North Corfu Municipality on Friday 24 January. Mayor Giorgos Mahimaris spoke at their induction and said that he considered them and all the other employees to be valuable colleagues in the daily efforts of the local authority to provide improved services to the public.

- The Civil Protection department in the North Corfu Municipality, equipped with plenty of salt and anti-skid chains, is in full readiness for any worsening of weather conditions and is fully prepared to provide necessary protection and services to the public.
