ATHENS. Videos of the search and rescue operation off Paxos and a message from the Minister of Marine and Island Policy Yiannis Plakiotakis.
The Coast Guard has published three videos of the search and rescue operation following the sinking of the boat off Paxos this morning which led to 12 deaths.
21 survivors have been taken to Preveza Hospital and the search is continuing for what is estimated to be about another 20 people.
Message from Yiannis Plakiotakis
The Minister for Marine and Island Policy Yiannis Plakiotakis posted a message on Facebook expressing his extreme sorrow at the human tragedy off the coast of Paxos when a boat carrying immigrants took in water and sank - with at least 12 people losing their lives.
"I would like to express my sorrow for those who so sadly lost their lives. The Coast Guard personnel and all those taking part in the search and rescue operation deserve praise. Their superhuman efforts have saved 21 people. The operation is continuing."
