Boat with immigrants sinks off Paxos - Rescue operation underway

PAXOS. A boat with 52 immigrants has sunk 13 nautical miles southwest of Paxos.
A rescue operation is underway southwest of Paxos. According to the latest information, the vessel was carrying 52 immigrants and sank 13 nautical miles southwest of the island.
One of the immigrants had earlier called the European Emergency Number on a mobile phone to say that the boat was in trouble and taking in water.
The Coast Guard from Corfu, Igoumenitsa, Paxos and Lefkada are taking part in the operation and so far 16 people have been rescued. They are being assisted by other vessels in the area and two Greek Navy Super Puma helicopters.
