NORTH CORFU. Convinced that nobody was going to fix the road connecting them to Kassiopi, residents from Santa decided to take matters into their own hands.
Five families worked together to repair the 2km road between Kassiopi and Santa. A reader from the area told Enimerosi that the road was in such a terrible state that only 4 x 4 vehicles could use it.
Three Greek families and 2 British families decided to fix the road - which had been in this condition for years - themselves. The road is the main lifeline between the village and the shopping area in Kassiopi and so for the residents it was essential that it be repaired.
The families all chipped in for a bush cutter and truckloads of stones along with a bulldozer and completed the work to a high standard!
There are hundreds of Municipal and rural roads in the same condition in Corfu, even in villages and communities, which haven't been repaired since they were first built. They are just part of the larger picture with even some of the larger main roads looking like bomb sites!
