CORFU. Deputy Mayor for Social Welfare Andreas Skoupouras was invited by Kato Korakiana Primary School tp speak on UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3).
The Deputy Mayor for Social Policy and Welfare spoke to the pupils about special needs, the right to diversity and the difficulties faced by those with disabilities.
Mr. Skoupouras said: "The pupils showed a lot of interest and asked questions regarding the different types of disability and the difficulties arising from them. It is universally accepted that schools should be places where information is given and discussion held about such serious matters and we believe in the ability of the young generation to do away with the taboos and ideas of the past.
The Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality is tackling special needs issues with sensitivity and determination and is planning significant measures and strategies to improve the lives of those with special needs and their families which will be implemented in the near future."
