GERMANY. The German newspaper FAZ published an article about the investor Jörg Rockenhäuser and his fight against the investment in Erimitis, Corfu.

The German newspaper FAZ writes about the wealthy German's fight against what he calls the 'catastrophic' investment in Erimitis.

"Investor Jörg Rockenhäuser has no problem in talking publicly about the beautiful property he bought in Corfu with its unique sea view and over 1,000 olive trees."

He is normally a staunch defender of his family's private life but in this case he has made an exception because he is 'on a mission' says Sunday's Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung in an article titled "An investor is fighting for paradise".

The head of the company Permira who oversees billions of Euros says that foreign investors intend to invest in Erimitis, a protected area which, he says, should not be sacrificed to tourism. Jörg Rockenhäuser is opposed to the NCH Capital Group and the 'Kassiopi Programme', who intend to invest tens of millions in the protected wooded area in Erimitis opposite the Albanian coast.

NCH plans to construct a luxury hotel and dozens of villas. The Group, with headquarters in New York, intends to invest a total of 120m Euros, although the Greek State has only received 20m up to now.

"We want Greece to remain the most beautiful country in Europe"

With the slogan "Save Erimitis" Jörg Rockenhäuser has the support of other wealthy investors such as Jacob Rothschild and Rob Lucas from the investment company CVC. Along with his supporters he is able to pay for the best lawyers in his fight to save Erimitis and hopes that things will go better with the new Greek Government.

Noone could have imagined that the responsible Minister wants to show Corfu that the new Government wants to welcome large investors with open arms, says FAZ. The other Ministers in the Cabinet are opposed to the Minister's stance regarding the investment in Kassiopi, and reject investments where there is opposition from the local population.

A recent idea that the German investor has had is to buy the property. To do this, however, he says that he needs to persuade like-minded people to make an 'investment' which will not be at all profitable.

In a letter to the Greek Prime Minister the group of activist-investors state that he has invested over 100m Euros in Greece. The letter ends: "We want Greece to remain the most beautiful country in Europe. Protect the natural beauty of Erimitis."
