CORFU. Spyros Neratzis, leader of the Kerkira Psilla party, declared: "It is our duty to show solidarity".
"We have never, in our history, been xenophobic, closed-off and hostile. Tourism is not in danger of being negatively affected if we are requested to accommodate a number of refugees," said Spyros Neratzis - without caring about the political cost - in support of the view of the Deputy Mayor for Tourism Panos Varouchas.
Translation: "The local party 'Kerkira Psilla' makes its views known publicly and without prevarication or counting the political cost of its views on matters affecting our community.
The refugee issue affects the whole country and needs to be dealt with seriously and in an organised way - not only by the government, but also by local authorities, who are being called upon to take their share of responsibility.
As was stated by the Deputy Mayor for Tourism and member of 'Kerkira Psilla Panos Varouchas, tourism is not in danger of being negatively affected if we are requested to accommodate a number of refugees.
Throughout its long history our society has never been xenophobic, closed-off and hostile.
It is our duty to show solidarity."
