CORFU. "The decision was taken without having proper consultation beforehand," Mayor Kostas Lessis told Enimerosi.
South Corfu Mayor Kostas Lessis was asked to comment on the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands being renamed "Corfiots and Diapontians".
"I have been involved in local government for years. These kinds of issues should be dealt with scientific and historical validations along with proper consultations," said the South Corfu Mayor.
"The former Corfu Municipality was an urban network but now includes other Municipalities. I don't know why an issue such as this, which should be handled with special care, happened so hastily and rashly. This is my personal view and I express it in all seriousness: There was no serious justification and the decision didn't come about through proper consultation. Consequently, it was rash, hasty and misguided."
