CORFU. Meeting of partners in the Opening Heritage & Archaeological Sites for people with Special Needs (OHAS) EU Erasmus+ programme.
The meeting is being organised by one of the partners CulturePolis on 9 and 10 October at the Corfu Regional Administration Building (former Prefecture).
The non-profit civil partnership CulturePolis (culturepolis.org), which was formed in Corfu in 2006 and is active in the fields of culture, sustainability and innovation in national and European programmes, will be hosting the meeting in Corfu on 9 - 10 October for the partners in the Opening Heritage & Archaeological Sites for people with Special Needs (OHAS) EU Erasmus+ programme.
This project aim to make access for people with special needs easier and more convenient at cultural heritage sites such as archaeological sites, galleries, museums etc. as well as educating and training those employed in cultural organisations who come in contact with those with special needs. The project includes partners from Poland, Italy and Bulgaria and two meetings have already been held in Cracow, Poland and Perugia, Italy.
Along with discussion on the progress of the project, there will be visits to archaeological sites (Old Fortress) and museums (Museum of Asian Art) in the town in order to ascertain good access practices. There will also be a tour of the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, following a special Special Needs Map produced by Corfu Municipality on the initiative of Deputy Mayor for Social Welfare Andreas Skoupouras.
With these European activities, CulturPolis hopes to raise the awareness of people working in the field of Culture as well as the general public and create a sustainable and decent environment for everyone
