12 Aug 2019 / 07:09

CORFU. Corfu Waste Watch held a meeting with representatives of various organisations.

The purpose of the meeting was to push their demand for the temporary removal of the waste to a legal recipient outside Corfu.

Following a brief presentation on the inadequacy of the planned interim and future waste management programme in Corfu there was an exhaustive discussion on the interim management of waste over the next three years.

A document was put together at the meeting, approved by all those present, calling for the temporary removal of waste to a legal recipient outside Corfu so that time can be gained in order to properly plan and create a modern integrated waste management system focussing on sorting at source.

It was also agreed to hold a coordinated discussion with other organisations on 25 August to gain further approval for the document and together with the petition signed by individuals (up to now approximately 1,500 have signed) to establish a common front in favour of the temporary removal of waste from Corfu and the swift establishment of a modern, efficient integrated waste management system for the whole of Corfu which will not create problems.
