CORFU. Members of the Vidos Initiative met with Corfu Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos yesterday.
The delegation from Vidos Initiative, which has been set up to promote and protect Vidos Island, comprised former Mayor Yiannis Kourkoulos, Municipal Councillors Yiannis Kritikos and Giorgos Raidestinos, paediatrician Tatiana Spingou, the President of the Hellenic-Serbian Friendship Association Zeliko Popovic and former Municipal Councillor Pavlos Metallinos. The Deputy Mayor for Finance & Economy Aris Balis was also present.
The representatives expressed their concern at the situation on the island following the leasing of the Municipal restaurant to the tourism company IKOS and the problems with the shuttle service this year. They told the Mayor that in an IKOS advertisement Vidos is referred to as a private island.
The Mayor gave them a full update on developments since the present local authority started its term of office and the difficulties they have faced in trying to ensure a proper shuttle service.
It was agreed that efforts should be made to add another two shuttles at night and that the umbrellas and sunbeds be removed from in front of the Serbian Memorial.
