CORFU. The amount of recycling of clothing is increasing by leaps and bounds as more and more people find out about this possibility.
According to Spyros Neratzis, who is coordinating the initiative in Corfu in collaboration with Recycom, the Corfu public is disproving those who say there is no interest in recycling on the island.
"In just thirty days we collected 19 pallets with clothing from local residents.
The previous shipment had 8 pallets with clothing collected over 45 days. In other words, in fewer days we collected 2.4 times more clothing. This useless cloth along with that previously collected will not be ending up in Temploni or Lefkimmi but away from the island to be used at the Recycom facility.
We would like to thank the following:
- Volunteers Vassilis Mercouris, Kostas Koulouris and Apostolos Lavranos who have taken care of collection, storage and loading of the clothing onto the lorries since we began.
- The transport company Kerkyra Express and the Vitouladitis brothers for the space they have provided us with and all their help. We would especially like to thank the father Mr. Vassilis Vitouladitis who, with his well-known smile and kind words, has not only taken on the responsibility for the loading and arranging of the clothing but is a continuous supporter of this project!
It goes without saying that the work will continue and will grow," said Spyros Neratzis.
Clothing recycling began just recently and is organised by All Together for the Corfu Environment in collaboration with the company Recycom.
There is a permanent red drop-off bin outside the Regional Building (Nomarchia) in Corfu Town where members of the public can put clothing and shoes for recycling.
