South Corfu: ΄No΄ to the Lefkimmi landfill

LEFKIMMI. New Mayor Kostas Lessis called a meeting with the South Corfu parties on Wednesday.
The aim of the meeting was to provide updates and hold a discussion on the new Municipality's burning issues. Nikos Goussis from 'Dimokratiki Sinergasia gia to Noto' and Yiannis Pandis from 'Notia Kerkyra Politon' were present at the meeting - Georgios Koulouris from 'Laiki Sispirosi' couldn't attend due to personal reasons. Municipal Councillors and members of the public also attended.
There were updates on the following subjects: organisatioal chart, budget, distribution of equipment and refuse trucks between the three Municipalities, setting up a DEYA (Public Water Company) for the South and waste management.
On the subject of waste management, following a fruitful discussion, the parties present agreed that the operation of the landfill in Mesorahia, Lefkimmi should not be allowed.
Mayor Kostas Lessis announced that he will call another meeting with party leaders and an unofficial meeting of the new Municipal Council before 1 September to deal with urgent issues in the new Municipality.
