CORFU. There was plenty of interest in Sunday evening΄s meeting organised by Fossil Free Corfu.
Speaking at the event were Kostas Grimanis - Head of Greenpeace Climate Justice, Stamatis Ginis - Biologist and Ichthyologist, Board member of the Management Organisation for the Protected Areas of Kalamas-Aheron-Corfu and Olivier Vardakoulias - Economist and WWF member.
As well as the probable negative consequences for tourism income in the region other parameters were also presented and discussed - with special emphasis on the environmental dangers present both during exploration and drilling and transportation of hydrocarbons.
It was also pointed out that despite the International Treaties that the EU has signed regarding pollutant emissions, oil companies have signed contracts for exploration and drilling in Greece.
