CORFU. Teams from the Municipality have been completing the lines on the pavements defining the areas available for cafes, restaurants and bars to place their tables and chairs.
The teams, accompanied by an engineer, have been drawing discreet but clearly visible lines demarcating the areas available for tables and chairs. This has been a long-time problem in Corfu with some cafes and restaurants taking up huge amounts of space with the greatest problem being access for emergency vehicles.
Violations will be fined to the tune of double the value of the area that has been used illegally. Inspections will be carried out by the regular police (ELAS) as the Municipal Police Force is but a distant memory now. Owners are responsible for keeping within the limits if they don't want someone to 'inform' on them.
As long as the paint stands the test of time and the owners' 'wiliness'!
