CORFU. Corfu Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos welcomed the Alpi Tour Bicycle Group in the Old Town Hall Square.
Mr. Nikolouzos thanked the organisers for choosing Corfu to spend a week cycling around the island. He told them that "Corfu can offer alternative tourism and cycling lets you experience the natural environment of the island with its beauty and its rich history and culture. The Venetian, French, Russian and British influences can be seen in Corfu's historical town, which has developed a lot of features of western European towns."
The cycling group, which has 130 - 150 members here, chooses a different Greek island every year for cycling holidays. They will follow different routes each day, setting off from the Old Town Hall Square.
