CORFU. Navigational instruments were damaged but there were no injuries to those on board.

A catamaran sailing near Kommeno was struck by lightning yesterday evening. The Port Authority received a message that the catamaran Dreamliner II, flying a Polish flag, had been struck by lightning and the navigational instruments were not functioning. The vessel, which was coming from Dubrovnik, was 7 nautical miles from the entrance to Gouvia Marina.

A Coastguard vessel immediately set off and found the catamaran with two foreign nationals on board who had come to no harm and safely escorted it to Gouvia Marina.

The Port Authority has prohibited the vessel from sailing until a certificate of seaworthines has been given.
