CORFU. They won΄t take part in the Carnival events either.
Corfu Dance Schools announced their decision today not to put on their traditional performances this year. They met with the Mayor yesterday but didn't get satisfactory answers to their concerns.
Even though they had the rejection document in their hands, the Mayor assured them that they could put on their annual performances but at a later date - around the end of June or beginning of July.
As well as the problem of not being allowed the use of the theatre it came out that the fire safety certificate has still not been issued. On top of this there are also the problems of stability, lack of personnel and antiquated facilities. Speaking on behalf of all the schools, Sotiris Bouchagiar stressed that they have a huge responsiblity towards the children and their families if there are any accidents. He also pointed out that the performances require a lot of time for preparation with a lot of work and so plenty of time for planning is needed.
"Our decision not to put on performances this year is based on our sense of responsibility and will not be reversed. We believe that the operation of the Municipal Theatre should be suspended for all parties until the building's problems are resolved. Let other groups accept their own responsibility." said Mr. Bouchagiar.
