CORFU. There was a disappointing turnout at Faliraki on Friday.

The meeting, chaired by the Deputy Mayor for Tourism Vassilis Kavadias, was to discuss the establishment of a Destination Management Organization (DMO) in Corfu with local authority representatives and tourism professionals.

This has been a long-term demand from tourism professionals and Vassilis Kavadias has held several meetings on the issue to date. Following the preliminary meetings at which tourism professionals had in general been in agreement, Friday's meeting was to decide on the structure of the Organization.

There was extremely little interest, however, as only representatives from the Hoteliers' Association, Travel Agents and one tourism promotion company turned up. According to Mr. Kavadias, 70 invitations had been sent to tourism professionals, chambers and town councillors (so that the next local authority could be updated).

Some said that they wouldn't be in Corfu, others mixed up the dates...

Due to the lack of interest the Deputy Mayor decided not to go ahead with the meeting and said, "This is very saddening - let the next Municipal Authority take over."
