CORFU. The working meeting with updates on the waste management situation which was postponed last Tuesday due to protests will now take place on Tuesday 19 February.
The Regional Administration had been invited to the meeting along with the leaders of the Regional and Municipal parties as well as the independent councillors and representatives from other organizations in Corfu to be given an update on the latest developments in the waste management situation.
There were protests due to the fact that the Temploni and Lefkimmi organizations hadn't been invited, which the Laiki Sispeirosi party also objected to and walked out of the meeting. Following the postponement, Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos said, "Bearing in mind that the waste management problem is the most serious issue that Corfu faces at the moment, which needs to be discussed calmly and soberly, we didn't want the meeting to turn into a pre-election clash and decided to postpone it. The Local Authority doesn't operate on the principle of exclusion but neither does it operate under coercion with endless and ineffectual discussions."
According to information, the meeting will take place at the Park Hotel but it is not known whether there will be any changes in who will be invited to the meeting.
