CORFU. Weather permitting, work is slowly resuming on Eth. Palaiokastritsas Rd at Solari. The contractor is already restoring a section of the sewage pipe approximately halfway along the road.
At this stage - bearing in mind that the deadline is 31 March - the present contractor is expected to lay the asphalt, paint road markings and construct three junctions with traffic lights - at Capuccinous, at the turn off for Kefalomantouko and at the Potamos junction.
The committee of local business owners visited the Regional office and were told there will be six crossings on the road between Platytera and Alykes, and not three, which they had been concerned about. According to Deputy Regional Governor Sakis Tsoukas, they are considering amending the original plan for the central traffic island to make it easier for emergency vehicles - fire engines and ambulances.
In any case, the construction of the central traffic island along the whole length of the road is the responsibility of another contractor. According to the same sources, it is possible that this contract work will begin after the local elections so that it can be carried out at the beginning of summer in better weather conditions.
