CORFU. Traffic lights in dreadful condition on Eth. Palaiokastritsa Rd.
The traffic lights have been out of operation for almost a month at the Agia Ekaterini junction in Alykes - a busy section which is also an accident spot. Deputy Regional Governor for Corfu Nikoletta Pandi, who was in contact with the technical supervisor at the same time, told Enimerosi: "The technical crew has started work and they have assured me that the traffic lights will be operating in a week, at the most eight days".
The traffic lights at the Agia Ekaterini junction in Alykes stopped working just after the lights just down the road at Ekati junction - which hadn't been working for a long time - had been fixed.
At almost the same time other traffic lights along Eth. Palaiokastritsa Rd. also went out. Between the hospital and Tzavros junction, a distance of 2km, we counted at least four 'dead' sets of lights. Nikoletta Pandi told us: "The whole network is very old and in poor condition, which is why there are such frequent malfunctions. We plan to replace the whole network."
