CORFU. Lefkimmi residents once again approached the landfill on Sunday afternoon and found themselves up against the police who were securing the facility.
The Police Chief Spyros Alamanos, who was present, didn't allow them to enter but did allow them to come close to the facility. On this occasion the residents wanted to clean up the area surrounding the landfill and started to collect all the rubbish which they say has been left by the police.
The clean-up campaign was carried out without problem and without any clashes - unlike previous occasions when residents tried to approach the nearby church of Panayia Pantanasas resulting in serious clashes, the use of chemicals, fires and injuries.
