CORFU. Banyan Tree - one of the world΄s major luxury resort chains - is opening its first property in Europe in Corfu.
The Asian hotel chain Banyan Tree, based in Singapore, specialises in luxury resorts. It is planning to open its first European property in Corfu in May. The chain owns the Banyan Tree, Angsana, Dhawa and Cassia brands and has 48 hotels in China, Cuba, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Mexico, Seychelles, Thailand and Vietnam. It has announced that it will be adding another 26 properties in the next three years - starting this year with 9 new hotels in Asia plus the Angsana in Corfu, giving them a foothold in Europe.
The former San Stefanos Hotel in Benitses had been closed for ten years and following a complete renovation has been transformed into a wonderful 5-star hotel which is expected to have a significant impact both in Corfu and in Greece. For the past ten years the property has been owned by the Kertsikoff shipping family and it is estimated that the complete renovation cost 50m Euros.
KLC III Hellas has stated that the hotel will improve Corfu's tourism product and will attract high-income tourists. The property will have 199 rooms and 40 villas, some with private pools. There will be Asian and international cuisines on offer in the restaurants and on the website it says that the fine dining restaurant will be serving Michelin-starred chef Ektoras Botrini’s exquisite recipes.
Facilities include the Angsana Spa with 16 treatment rooms, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, water sports, a state-of-the-art gym and yoga deck. There is also a Kids Club and kids' pool. The hotel also offers meeting and event facilities.
