ATHENS. This time the Mayor, Regional Governor and SYDISA representatives will be present.

Representatives from Lefkimmi (Cultural Society, Initiative and the Attica Association) were adamant that they won't tolerate any actions that aren't constitutionally legal at yesterday's meeting at the Ministry of the Interior. They met with the Minister Alexis Haritsis, the General Secretary Kostas Poulakis, the General Secretary for Waste Management Evaggelos Kapetanios and the Minister for the Environment Socrate Famelos.

There was a long discussion and the Cultural Society Secretary Yiannis Pandis told Enimerosi that it was agreed to hold another meeting at the Ministry in the near future, but this time the Mayor, the Regional Governor and SYDISA would also be present. A 'round table' in other words, with all the involved parties present.

A date wasn't fixed but Mr. Pandis, who considered the meeting to be 'positive', said that the Minister promised that the Council of State decision to allow another 2,000 tons of waste to be deposited at the landfill wouldn't be enforced before the next meeting.

Mr. Pandis said that they also brought up the matter of the riot police (MAT) in Lefkimmi and their demand that they be withdrawn. The Minister seemed willing to work with the Minister for Civil Protection Olga Gerovasili and that her promise to withdraw the police within 2 weeks be carried out. The 2-week deadline that she gave has already, of course, been and gone....
