CORFU. Regarding Temploni Cultural Society΄s announcement and invitation last week for groups and organizations to attend a meeting on Sunday 25 November, Corfu Compost Project has issued the following statement:
1. Due to the lack of communication between the organizations regarding the written announcement, our group was included in the signatories to the announcement-invitation even though we didn't know enough about the organization or our organizational role in the meeting.
2. We didn't sign the written text for the simple reason that we weren't asked to. Consequently, we would like to clarify that it cannot be considered to represent our views. We understand that mistakes like this can be made in these kind of circumstances and that in this case there were the best of intentions.
3. We support in essence any effort by groups to set up projects that will help to provide a solution to the waste management crisis in Corfu in a sustainable way just as we are behind any effort that supports our principles. For this reason we took part in the meeting in a positive spirit, willing to contribute in any way just as all the other organizations and individuals did.
We consider that all the work done by volunteer and other groups regarding waste management in Corfu is the healthiest and most hopeful thing that has happened on our island for decades. We invite the public to follow these developments and, as much as they can, to participate in them.
