ATHENS. It was announced at the General Assembly of the Panhellenic Police Federation that the police will put into action what they warned they would do.

The 58 Primary Organizations of the Panhellenic Federation of Police Officers (POASY) held a General Assembly on 1-2 November, during which the coordinated, dynamic progress of the movement was strongly stressed - under the pressure of continuous terrorist attacks on police personnel and property - in front of the Police Chiefs and Junior Minister for Civil Protection Katerina Papakosta.

POASY announced that it would "take indefinite industrial action at Lefkimmi landfill, as we have already warned the Police Authority, because it turns out that it is the police officers that are treated like 'rubbish' and our colleagues are exposed to danger because of 'political games'."

The Federation President Grigoris Gerakarakos and General Secretary Giorgos Papatsimbas updated the Primary Organizations on the Board's current activities - the expected legislation on arrears payments according to the decisions of the Council of State on pay cuts; the inconvenience of the reinstatement of the declaration of source of wealth and the request for new deadlines - which was accepted; the decision to demand arrears payments of Christmas and Easter bonuses and holiday pay with lawsuits under the aegis of the Federation; the commencement of meetings with the political parties regarding the right to strike in view of the upcoming review of the Constitution; the prevention of cuts of 4m Euros from the Army Pension Fund (MTS); the upcoming representation on the MTS Board; collaboration with Athens Archdiocese on the matter of children of police officers being accepted at church camps and liturgical services for police victims on duty as well as several actions undertaken by the Federation following up complaints from the Primary Organizations regarding immigration (11 have died already), misuse of police forces, Lefkimmi landfill and other issues.
