CORFU. Filming in Corfu for the 4th series of the popular TV series has been completed.
The cast and crew of the fourth and final series of The Durrels have returned to London. Following the success of the first three series, ITV decided to add a fourth to this popular series which is filmed in beautiful Corfu and based on Gerald Durrel's Corfu Trilogy.
Produced by Sid Gentle Films, the new series is again written by Simon Nye (Men Behaving Badly). All the basic members of the cast - Keeley Hawes, Josh O'Connor, Callum Woodhouse, Daisy Waterstone, Milo Parker and others - are still in the same roles. The Greek actors Alexis Georgoulis and Giorgos Karamihos are also basic members of the cast and this year another - Kostas Kromidas - has been added. The Corfu actor Electra Nikolouzo has previously played in the series. As with all the previous series, the production team hired locals as extras.
The series, described by the Guardian as "boisterous period drama", has had some of the highest ITV viewing figures. Although it is broadcast in the UK on ITV, it is distributed by BBC Studios, which is managed by Sid Gentle.
About a month was spent filming the outdoor scenes in Corfu and now the interior scenes will be filmed in the studio in London.
Alexis Georgoulis, the Greek star in the series, wrote on Instagram: "Last day today on Corfu and we are heading to London for the interior scenes of the last season of "The Durrells"... That "last" is so heartbreaking..."
