PIRAEUS. Next stop is Corfu where it will arrive on Monday morning to be welcomed by the local authorities headed by Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos.

The Peace Boat, which set sail from Yokohama, made its first stop in the Mediterranean on Saturday morning at the Port of Piraeus.

The Peace Boat set sail on its 99th world journey from the port of Yokohama on Saturday 1 September where hundreds of people gathered to see it off.

It is the first time the ship is sailing in collaboration with the UN SDG Action Campaign. It departed from Japan with the purpose of inspiring and mobilizing people to take action for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The journey round the world aims to promote the 17 UN targets for sustainable development, one of which is to combat sea pollution.

Following Piraeus the next port of call is Corfu on Monday morning, where it will be welcomed by the local authorities headed by Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos.

Amongst the 1,000 passengers are survivors from the Holocaust in Hiroshima and Nagasaki who are bringing a message of world peace.

The Peace Boat will be travelling for a total of 100 days.
