CORFU. Petrol dealers are seeing daily fuel price increases.

There has been a big rise in the prices of liquid fuels in Corfu burdening even more the already exhausted households and businesses suffering from the price increases of almost all products.

The price of unleaded petrol at filling stations in Corfu jumped in a few days to over €2 and is currently available at €2.04-€2.07 per litre, compared to €1.94 last week.

Similarly, the price of heating oil is at €1.53 - €1.54 per litre, when last week it was at €1.36, while diesel exceeded €1.83, when it was at €1.64.

Unaffordable product

In fact, according to petrol dealers' estimates, the price of liquid fuels is expected to increase daily, turning them into a product that most people will no longer be able to afford.

The prices of the abovementioned fuels are expected to increase tomorrow, with all that this implies for the consumers' pockets. However, consumption has already been drastically reduced and the cars' tanks are filled with no more than €15-20, in order to serve only urgent needs.

The situation is similar for heating oil with consumers ordering no more than 150 litres and spending no more than €235-240 to get warm.

Unprecedented

“These increases are due to the great fuel price increases in general. Previous stocks have been exhausted and it is now difficult to find unleaded petrol in Corfu for less than €2. People cannot afford it, while, at the same time, purchase of fuel by the petrol dealers is done carefully,” said the Corfu Petrol Dealers Association President Antonis Sakkos, clarifying that in Corfu, as in the other Greek islands, the cost of transport is added to the fuel price.

However, according to experienced petrol dealers, the increase observed in fuel prices is something unprecedented even for them as they have not seen anything similar in the past.
