Work suspended at Potamos bridge - road traffic back to normal

CORFU. The Regional Administration decided to suspend work on reinforcing the bridge supports in Potamos.
The decision came following an inspection of the bridge by the Regional Technical Services for Corfu accompanied by the Regional Governor Theodoros Galiatsatos.
"Taking into consideration public safety and road traffic safety, we decided today to temporarily halt the work on Potamos bridge and have asked the contractor to immediately stop work and to open the three roads at the bridge crossroads to traffic within the next few days," said the Regional Governor.
"We would like to apologise for any inconvenience to local residents but our prime concern is public safety and the completion of the work in a way which ensures the long-term safety for drivers and pedestrians."
Once the roads are open to traffic again, signs will be placed prohibiting vehicles over 5 tons from crossing the bridge.
Work will resume when the Regional Technical Services for Corfu deem that the conditions - especially the weather - are suitable.
