Municipality of Corfu at the 3rd International Forum in Venice

CORFU. "A thousand cities, millions of citizens: a vision for our future”

Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos represented the Municipality of Corfu at the 3rd International Towns Forum "A thousand cities, millions of citizens: a vision for our future” in Venice on 2 and 3 September.

The special theme at this year's Forum was "Urban mobility: domain, identity and development" and there was discussion of international trends and good practices to improve the public's mobility (residents and visitors) in towns including sustainability, advanced technology, efficiency and safety.

The Mayor presented Corfu as a travel destination with suitable facilities for those with special needs at the beaches (amphibious wheelchairs, ramps, facilities for the elderly etc.) as well as a network of pedestrianised areas in the Old Town making it accessible for visitors with mobility problems.

The following also took part in the Forum: Monaco (Mayor), Linz, Austria (Mayor), Rabat, Morocco (Deputy Mayor), Rethymnon (Deputy Mayor), Moscow (Head of the Local Finance Committee), St. Petersburg (Deputy Head of Finance Committee for Design and Planning), Braga, Portugal (Local Councillor for Traffic), Nanjing, China (Head of the local planning programme) and Kharkiv, Ukraine (Head of Planning).
