Workers΄ unions blockade the Messonghi bridge

CORFU. Workers΄ unions from PAME have blocked Messonghi bridge as a symbolic protest against the presence of the riot police and the use of Lefkimmi landfill.
The statement they issued says, "Things have come to a head! The riot police have cordoned off the Lefkimmi landfill - which is a danger to public health - provoking incidents just with their presence."
The following unions are participating in the protest: Corfu Union of Private Sector Employees, Corfu Hotel Employees' Union, Corfu Union of Builders and related professions, Corfu Federation of Agricultural Unions and Corfu Union of Self-Employed, Manufacturers and Traders.
Lefkimmi Cultural Society is also taking part in the protest with Vice-President Spyros Kantas.
There is a small police presence in the area along with Traffic Police to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
