CORFU. Campaign from Corfu Hoteliers Association and Corfu Federation of Tourist Accommodation Owners.
Corfu Hoteliers Association and Corfu Federation of Tourist Accommodation Owners have produced a TV spot to promote the importance of recycling in solving the problem with waste.
In their press release they say: "Negligence, failures, poor planning and mismanagement have led our island into a state of complete despair, turning it into an endless rubbish dump. This has resulted in dangers to public health and created a negative image of Corfu as a tourist destination - one of the main destinations in the country.
In these difficult times that we are going through we need to be strong and overcome the problems so that we can get things back to normal. As they say, 'Every cloud has a silver lining' and so from the mountains of rubbish a solution may come.
We consider that everyone - whether or not they are experts - has now understood that one of the keys to proper waste management is RECYCLING, which unfortunately hasn't been properly understood on our island, judging by the lack of importance it has been given by the local waste management services - recycling in Corfu is in single digits and much lower than other regions in the country.
Corfu Federation of Tourist Accommodation Owners and the Hoteliers Association, as part of our social responsibility and in an effort to help solve the huge waste management problem which has plagued the island for so many years, have produced a TV spot to raise the awareness of residents and businessmen. We want to highlight the importance of recycling and call on all residents, young and old, to make recycling a part of their everyday life.
We call on all individuals to take part to the best of his or her ability and send out a strong message that by recycling we can help solve the waste management problem."
