CORFU. Deputy Mayor for Social Policies Andreas Skoupouras received another four amphibious wheelchairs yesterday.
Corfu now has the largest number of amphibious wheelchairs worldwide and its beaches can now be considered accessible to people with special needs - something, of course, which can't be said about the roads!
Statement from Deputy Mayor for Social Policies Andreas Skoupouras
"Today we received 4 new amphibious wheelchairs at the Town Hall. Corfu Municipality now has 13 and if we add the 5 belonging to the Regional Special Needs Society, then Corfu comes first worldwide with 18 amphibious wheelchairs on the same number of beaches.
In the next few days a team from the Regional Special Needs Society for Corfu will visit the most suitable beaches out of those that have put in requests to hand the wheelchairs over.
I would like to thank my colleagues in the Society and the Municipality because in 4 years we have managed to achieve what was thought to be impossible.
Let's not forget that in July 2014 when the Regional Special Needs Society brought the first two to Corfu we couldn't even imagine getting to where we are today!
In the next few days I will be presenting the updated map."
