Protest concert against Lefkimmi landfill from workers΄ unions

concert
18 Jun 2018 / 06:33

CORFU. With the Corfu composer Spyros Samouilis.

Another protest concert against any use of Lefkimmi landfill and the transfer of waste bales from Temploni was held at Lefkimmi Secondary School on Sunday. The concert was headed by the well-known Corfu composer from Lefkimmi Spyros Samouilis.

Just a few hours before the concert Samouilis wrote on Facebook: "I will be at today's concert because it is a protest concert AGAINST the illegal landfill and NOBODY SHOULD - and I DIDN'T EXPECT IT - say that it shouldn't take place. This is an important social action and I've said that I'll take part in any such event. However, it grieves me that there have been threats - such as the burning of cars - against people wanting to come to the concert. If that isn't FASCISM, then what is? I don't want to have anything to do with divisions. We sing to bring people together!"

The protest was organized by Corfu Hotel Employees' Union, Corfu Federation of Agricultural Associations and the Parents' Association and was supported by professional and self-employed associations, the Parents' Association, sports, cultural and environmental societies as well as the Lefkimmi Cultural Society of Attica.
