CORFU. The Municipal Cleansing and Recycling Service released a statement saying that the waste processing machinery at Temploni has been repaired and refuse collection will resume immediately.

The statement goes on to say:

The collection of recyclable waste is already proceeding normally and is being taken to Corfu Recyclable Materials Sorting Centre (KDAY).

Members of the public who are able to keep their recyclable materials are requested to do so until Tuesday and those who can't should put them in the blue bins - not on top of the piles of refuse.

With the resumption of the waste management procedure, priority will be given to the collection of the large refuse piles and the areas which are worst affected.

Until all the large piles have been cleared we would ask that the public limit the amount of waste they place in the green bins and not put out large objects as this hampers the refuse collection operation at  this time.

Members of the public are also requested not to park their cars next to waste bins in order to make the collection of refuse easier.
