CORFU. The composer Spyros Samouilis will be participating.

Another protest concert will be held on Sunday 17 June at Lefkimmi Secondary School against any kind of use of Lefkimmi landfill and the transportation of the waste bales from Temploni.

At a press conference today, Stamatis Pelais from the Hotel Employees Union, Manthos Gisdakis from the Parents' Association and Vassilis Armeniakos from the Corfu Union of Agricultural Associations called on everyone to "resist the attempted crime of transferring the waste bales, which will destroy Lefkimmi without providing a solution to the problem."

The well-known Corfu and Lefkimmi composer, Spyros Samouilis, will be leading the concert.

The protest is supported by workers' unions, agricultural associations, professional and self-employed associations, the Parents' Association, sports, cultural and environmental societies as well as the Lefkimmi Cultural Society of Attica.

Golden Dawn will not be present

There was a falling-out between the Hotel Employees' Union and the Lefkimmi Cultural Society at the previous concert because of the presence of the Golden Dawn MP Ioannis Aivatidis. However, Stamatis Pelais told Enimerosi, "It's true that on that day the Lefkimmi Cultural Society lost our trust. Nevertheless, we want to make it known that everyone is welcome except for Golden Dawn. There will be security at the event, as always, and if members of Golden Dawn turn up, they will be turned away."

What Lefkimmi Cultural Society says

Maria Kontomari, President of Lefkimmi Cultural Society, told Enimerosi, "Whoever is against the use of Lefkimmi landfill - whether together with us or separately - is welcome as long as they don't want to use the protest for personal reasons."
